Eat more lean protein to control your appetite. Go for low-fat dairy; skinless chicken and turkey; fish; lean cuts of beef, pork, and veal; legumes; soy foods; and nuts and seeds.

As registered dietitian Karen Schroeder notes in an online article from EBSCO Publishing, humans use their body’s enzymes, not enzymes from plants, to break down foods.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, but newer studies suggest that this “sunshine” vitamin also lowers the risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers. It may even help keep you young. Vitamins that strengthen the immune system, such as Vitamins A, E, zinc, and selenium, should also be added.
